Research Interests and History

Jeff Ge has been on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Stony Brook University since 1993 and has served as Undergraduate Program Director, Deputy Chair, Interim Chair, and Chair. He has over 160 peer-reviewed publications in journals and conference proceedings. He was one of the first who brought together the fields of Kinematics and Computational Geometry and developed the field of Computational Kinematic Geometry that has found applications in CAD/CAM, Machine Design and Robotics, where geometric and motional issues are of major concern.

Jeff Ge is a Fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and currently serves as the chair of ASME Design Engineering Division. He served as on the Executive Committee of ASME Mechanisms and Robotics for three years including the Committee Chair in 2011. He has been a member of ASME Machine Design Award Committee (2004-2010), ASME Leonard Da Vinci Award Committee (2004-2010), and ASME Barnett Uzgiris Award Committee (2009-2012). He was Chief US Delegate to 2015 IFToMM World Congress and Chair of US Member Organization of IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanisms and Machine Science). Currently, he serves as the Chair of Constitution Committee of IFToMM.

Jeff Ge organized and chaired many technical sessions of ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Conference as well as ASME Design Automation conference. He was Program Chair (2007) and Conference Chair (2008) of ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Conference.  He served as General Technical Program Chair of 2006 and 2008 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences (IDETC) and Computers in Engineering (CIE). He was also on the International Program Committees of numerous technical conferences organized by ASME and IEEE.

He was an Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Mechanical Design (2003-2006) and Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics (2010-2016) as well as International Journal of Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines (2010-2016).
